Well, I take the meager yellow light to represent the hopeless situation that George finds himself in. He's stuck with this big galoot, and he's trying to make an honest living, but how can he ever get the farm while he's got to lug Lenny around? It's like this light represents just that little, itty bitty hope that maybe things will work out. Maybe Lenny won't screw it up for the both of them. It's just such a little light. So little. And meager. And I guess you know what happens, since you've probably finished the book. The light turns out to be bigger than they thought and they live happily ever after with the rabbits.
