We have mice everywhere. How do we get rid of them? We are picking up a kitten today. How can we teach her to?

We have tried those sonic plug in things. No good! Traps wont work because we have 5 kids and 3 dogs. HELPWe have mice everywhere. How do we get rid of them? We are picking up a kitten today. How can we teach her to?
Cats have that natural instinct to chase mice. You won't have to ';train'; her/him. You will have to let the kitten grow up a bit before it will chase and capture the mouse. Make sure you get the kitten to a vet for it's shots also. You don't want rabies or any diseases. We have mice everywhere. How do we get rid of them? We are picking up a kitten today. get those sticky glue traps.Put them where you see those critters lurking around.I have even put peanut butter in the middle of the glue traps.

You may want to set the traps out at night so you kids won't touch them
5 kids 3 dogs kitten amd mice

good luck!!!!!!
As someone has already said, you would be better with an older cat rather than a kitten, as regards training killing will come naturally to any cat %26amp; infact that the smell of a cat will usually send mice elsewhere
Well they make poison pouches that are supposedly kid / pet friendly... but if you are into dogs get yourself a rat terrier. They are little rodent killing machines... better than cats even.
you need to put poison everywhere - DEXON is the best.

that is what i did and all the mice ate it and eventually died. Remember mice don't leave when it gets warm, they will still stay inside. And a pair of mice can make 200-400 babies in a matter of 2 months.

Mice are dirty and diseased, even though it would be natural for your kitten to go after and kill mice, they might be dirty or sick and your cat could get sick. NOT GOOD%26gt;

A professional is your best bet. The orkin man will come out and do a free inspection to let you know what you are dealing with and to get a quote.
you shouldnt need to train her, its a natural instinct for cats
Go to your hardware store and find a live trap.

The box will catch ONE mouse live. The first mouse squeaks and calls the second mouse, so on and on, until the trap is full. You can catch ten or 15 on one setting.

Take the mice out and release them FAR from your home. They WILL come back if you just throw them outside.

The live trap is basically a spring-loaded pressure-sensitive wind-up 'treadmill' in a tin box deal about 10'; by 10'; with a trap door and a key winder.

You really need to find out where the mice are getting INTO the house and plug all the holes.
you wouldnt teach her it would come naturally and as for a kitten get a slightly older cat!
Truly Nolen has these plastic traps that the mice go in and never come out. I don't know if you could go to your local Do-it-Yourself Pest Control place and get these, but they are safer than the kind that snap and can take your hand off. We have a ton of hantivirus and rabies cases here in the southwest, so I wouldn't want my cat eating them! EW! Plus, cats have a habit of leaving ';part';...like little tails and feet for you to find. Double EW!
You really can't teach a cat to be a mouser. Either she is or she isn't. On the up-side, having a cat in the house will keep the mice at bay... might not happen immediately but the scent of a cat is a repellent. I might get some mouse toys or toys to encourage stalking and attack. Since it's a kitten it won't harm your children.
It will take a while - be patient with her! Cats vary in their instinct - some are better mousers than others, but I think you could have found a good natural solution to your mice problem.

It will help if you give your kittken lots of care and attention, because she might be nervous of all the dogs and children, so give her time and I hope it works!!
Fiddlesticks, you're nuts... ';release the mice as FAR away as possible? so they can become someone else's problem? how about put them in a container weighted down with a stone and send them to the bottom of a lake or ocean.
it is NOT true all kittens naturally chase mice-they must be taught by their mother-make sure they have stayed with their mother
It's natural instinct for cats to go after mice.
You will need to either teach the kids not to touch traps or make then inaccessible. But live traps are pretty safe like the one at this link:
train her 24/7.like boot camp
Feed the kitten on dead mice only
