Is it dangerous for small dogs to hunt/kill mice/rats?

We have been in our first house for about a month, and are beginning to realize that our neighbor has a rat/mice problem in her attic that is becoming our problem too. This weekend me %26amp; my husband found 4 dead mice, and are starting to think that our 2 small dogs are playing with them/hunting them? Our dogs are each about 5 yrs old, 7-8 lbs chihuahuas. Could the rats/mice be dangerous to them? Scratching/biting/or just diseases? Is it dangerous for small dogs to hunt/kill mice/rats?
most small breed dogs were bred for just such things. the only threat to your dogs is worms or if someone has been trying to use poison to control the problem. make sure your dogs are up to date on their shots, are on monthly flea preventatives, and have a stool sample checked by your vet for internal parasitesIs it dangerous for small dogs to hunt/kill mice/rats?
They can contract disease but not likely but they can also get fleas from rats. Typically the dog will not take on something that might get the best of it.
Yes they could contract a number of diseases..you should get a fully immunized cat to move in with you guys that would solve the problem ...
Probably not dangerous per say. But, they carry disease and dogs can get worms and fleas from the mice. Or both. Don't let it become a regular thing. Worm=tape worms from ingesting the fleas/flea eggs, or eating poop. Eating rabbit poop can also do this.

Set out some traps in a place the dogs can't get or use the box type things that they(mice) enter and cannot get out. They are stainless steel or aluminum.
There is potential for disease and/or parasites such as fleas.... etc. Another potential danger is if your neighbors and anyone in the neighborhood is setting out rat/mouse poison. Any victim of the poison can possibly poison an animal that eats it.
I don't think it's good that your dogs might be exposed to these rodents. Make sure their shots are up to date. Your neighbor needs to get an exterminator, stat! Good luck.
the hunting process is good for the dogs to go through and learn

and there shouldnt be any diseases too terrible
My parents jack russells always hunt mice and eat them with no problems. The chances of them having diseases is slim and they are not eating them either just killing them. We have always had dogs that hunt mice in the field so I don't see a problem with it other than they can get worms and need regular deworming. Cats hunt and eat mice all the time with no problems.
only problem i see is if the rodents had ingested poison before they died then you dogs could have affects from that too, if your worried get them checked out by your vet.
Sounds like a normal problem to me. Get some Cats and they will eat them and leave the intenstine for scraps.
