I am an intelligent man and I have been up all night and yes, I am going to buy the book.
I have read a couple of synopses online but I just don't get it
I haven't read it - why is the story a portrait of friendship?I want to read Of Mice and Men because I posed a question earlier about a novel that talked about friendship .
George puts Lennie out of his misery - the greatest thing a friend can do (read the end of the plot summary in the source below).I want to read Of Mice and Men because I posed a question earlier about a novel that talked about friendship .
Of Mice and Men is a tragedy that was written in the form of a play in 1937. The story is about two traveling ranch workers, George and Lennie, trying to work up enough money to buy their own farm/ranch. It encompasses themes of racism, loneliness, prejudice against the mentally ill, and the struggle for personal independence. Along with Grapes of Wrath, East of Eden, and The Pearl, Of Mice and Men is one of Steinbeck's best known works. I am guessing since the two of them are traveling together and with George Milton looking after Lennie who is mentally challenged this provides the basis for the friendship theme.
It's all about the relationship between George and Lennie, totally different characters. I don't want to give the story away to you - but it's all about sacrifice and looking out for each other... or yourself.
