i totally had the same problem- i had 25 mice and was so tired of buying mouse mix. Here's what i did- as long as the mice are adult and healthy, they're fine to eat kitten food (lots of protein for muscle-y mice!) . Give them a little dish of that each day, and every third day, put a little bit of normal mouse mix/seeds/corn kernels instead since every mouse needs a balanced diet. Don't give them the option of cat food vs. normal food, because the normal food is way more exciting and they'll never eat the cat food. Also, my mice really liked hay and grass (grow it yourself to ensure that it's pesticide free). Is there a cheap way to feed mice?
I am really surprised about how the price you mention, at least down here in Mexico i dont think mice food is that expensive...maybe its just the brand...or the quality...who knows...
