How come the book ';Of Mice and Men'; is called like that?

I simply don't understand. Why the hell did John Steinbeck call his book like that? I recall Lennie麓s mice and that, but still, i don't find them much relevance to the story.How come the book ';Of Mice and Men'; is called like that?
